PRESS: Telegram may offer users personal data storage
MOSCOW, May 10 (PRIME) -- Popular messenger Telegram may offer data storage services to its users, Vedomosti business daily reported on Thursday, citing two people close to the company.
Telegram has developed the first service for its future blockchain platform TON (Telegram Open Network) and is testing it in a closed mode.
The service is called Telegram Passport and will be used to verify users. The users will need to upload all necessary documents and information once to use them as an identification pass at Telegram’s partner services.
Telegram first said it was developing the TON in January. It has raised U.S. $1.7 billion for the purpose since then.
Telegram Passport may be launched by June, one of the sources said.
Russian payment system QIWI has already been granted access to the technology. QIWI and Telegram are considering a joint launch, one of the sources said.
QIWI CEO Sergei Solonin declined to comment.
